How to Create a LinkedIn Company Page in 2026: Setup Steps Plus the First 30 Days of Posts
You can build a LinkedIn company page in a few minutes from a personal profile with a real name, at least one connection and, ideally, a work email on your company's domain. Choose the page type, fill in the name, URL, industry, size, logo, tagline and About text, then publish. Knowing how to create a LinkedIn company page is only half the job, though: the first 30 days of posts, admins and invites decide whether anyone ever sees it.
What you need before you start
LinkedIn does not let pages exist on their own. Every page is created by, and administered from, a personal account, so check three things first.
- A real personal profile. Use your own name, not the company name or a shared login. LinkedIn restricts fake and brand-named personal accounts, and a page tied to one is at risk when that account is flagged.
- Some connections. According to DreamHost, the only connection threshold LinkedIn states is that the personal account must have more than one connection with other members; there is no other published minimum. LinkedIn may also ask you to verify your workplace with a work email address or a Microsoft Entra Verified ID before you can create a page.
- A company email domain. An address such as name@yourfirm.co.uk makes verification straightforward and signals to LinkedIn that you genuinely represent the business.
Company, Showcase or educational institution?
When you start, LinkedIn asks which type of page you want. Almost every small business needs a Company page. A Showcase page is a sub-page hanging off an existing company page, for a distinct brand or service line, and the trade-offs are covered in our guide to Showcase pages versus company pages. Educational institution is for schools, colleges and universities only.
How to create a LinkedIn company page, field by field
On desktop, open the For Business menu at the top right of LinkedIn and choose to create a company page. Then work through the form.
Name and custom URL
Enter your trading name exactly as customers know it. LinkedIn suggests a public URL in the form linkedin.com/company/yourname; edit it now to something short and matching your brand. It is the address you will put on email signatures and your website, so a clumsy auto-generated one costs you every time it is shared.
Website, industry, size and type
Add your website, pick the closest industry, choose your organisation size band honestly and select the organisation type (privately held, partnership, self-employed and so on). Industry matters more than it looks: it shapes who LinkedIn shows the page to in search and suggestions.
Logo and cover image
Image specifications are where most setup guides disagree. RightBlogger (citing LinkedIn Help) gives the logo as 400 x 400 pixels recommended, 268 x 268 minimum, as a PNG or JPEG up to 3 MB. For the cover, Depost (citing LinkedIn Help) reports 1512 x 256 pixels as both the minimum and recommended size, PNG or JPEG up to 3 MB, and notes that the older 1128 x 191 figure still circulating is outdated. For post images, see our LinkedIn image sizes reference.
Rule of thumb: keep text and faces away from the left of the cover image. The logo overlaps it, and the crop differs between desktop and mobile, so preview both before you publish.
Tagline
The tagline sits under your name and has a short character limit. Say what you do and for whom in plain words, for example "Chartered accountants for owner-managed firms in Leeds". Slogans tell a stranger nothing.
About text, locations and the call-to-action button
After publishing, edit the page to add the rest. Write the About section in the words your buyers search for: your services, sectors and towns, stated naturally in the first couple of lines, since that is what shows before the "see more" cut. Add every office or yard as a location, and set the call-to-action button (options such as Visit website or Contact us) to wherever you actually want enquiries to land.
Verify the work email
If LinkedIn prompts you to confirm your workplace, use the company address and click the link in the email it sends. Doing it with a personal Gmail or Hotmail account is a common reason pages stall or get questioned later.
Common setup mistakes
- The auto-created duplicate. When employees type your firm's name into their job history before a page exists, LinkedIn can generate a basic placeholder. Search for your name before creating anything, and if two pages already exist, follow our guide to merging duplicate company pages.
- A personal email or a single admin. If the only admin leaves, the page can become very hard to recover.
- No custom URL. Fix it on day one, before the link is printed anywhere.
Pre-launch checklist
- Logo and cover checked on desktop and mobile.
- Tagline, About text and locations complete.
- Call-to-action button pointing at the right page.
- Custom URL set and added to your website and email signatures.
- At least two admins in place.
The first 30 days after you publish
Week one: five posts before you invite anyone
A visitor who follows an empty page has no reason to stay. Publish five posts first so the page looks alive: what the firm does and who it serves, a recent piece of work you can describe, a useful tip from your field, an introduction to the team or premises, and a short answer to a question customers often ask. Pin the strongest as a featured post.
Week two: admins with the right roles
Give a second trusted person super admin rights so you are never locked out, and give anyone who only posts a content admin role rather than full control. Our guide to adding an admin and choosing their role walks through each option.
Week three: employees link their profiles
Ask each employee to edit their current role and select the new page from the dropdown so its logo appears on their profile. Every linked profile is a route back to your page, and it shows prospects there are real people behind it.
Week four: spend invite credits carefully
Free credits are now scarce. The Scott Partnership reports that LinkedIn has cut the monthly limit from 250 to 50 per page in a staggered rollout, shared across all admins and renewing monthly. Per LinkedIn Help: Invitations to follow a LinkedIn Page, you must be a super or content admin to invite connections from the page. Spend credits on clients, referrers and local contacts most likely to engage, not on anyone with a pulse. Our guide to inviting connections to follow your page covers who to invite first.
A launched page with no posts behind it is a shop with its shutters down.
Keeping the page going after month one
Setup is the easy part; the common pattern is a burst of activity followed by silence. If finding time to write is the bottleneck, Helio Posts drafts company page posts from your website and a brand brief, sends each one to a named person to approve from an email, and keeps a calendar on the days you choose, flagging empty days in advance. You can see how it is structured on the pricing page.
Common questions about setting up a LinkedIn company page
Can I create a LinkedIn company page without a personal profile?
No. A LinkedIn company page must be created and managed from a personal account. LinkedIn expects that account to use a real name and have more than one connection. Creating a fake profile in the company's name breaks LinkedIn's rules and puts any page attached to it at risk if the account is restricted.
Can I create a LinkedIn company page on my phone?
Some LinkedIn company page tasks work in the mobile app, but setup and full editing are far easier on desktop, where every field, image crop and admin setting is visible. Creating the page on a computer also lets you preview the logo and cover image properly before anyone else sees the page.
How many followers does a new LinkedIn company page need?
LinkedIn sets no follower minimum for a company page to work. Early followers matter more for quality than quantity: clients, referrers and staff who will react and comment help posts reach further. Build steadily through linked employee profiles, invites and regular posting, and see our guide to getting more followers without ads.
