Eight checks, each with a plain fix.

  1. First line works before “see more”
  2. Length long enough to say something
  3. Readability short sentences, plain words
  4. Line breaks easy to read on a phone
  5. The ending one clear next step
  6. Hashtags three at most
  7. Links and what they do to reach
  8. Claims that need a source

What the eight checks look for

The same rules Helio Posts writes to. Each one is about being read on a phone, in a busy feed.

  1. 01

A first line that earns the click

LinkedIn shows two or three lines, then “see more”. Open with the result, the surprise or the question. “I’m delighted to announce” spends that line on nothing.

  2. 02

    Long enough to say something

Most good posts run 80 to 300 words. Under 40 is rarely enough to land a point. Over 450 loses people on a phone.

  3. 03

    Short sentences, plain words

Aim for under 20 words a sentence. Swap jargon like “leverage” and “synergy” for the word you would say out loud.

  4. 04

    Line breaks for the phone

One idea per paragraph, with a blank line between. A block over 200 characters looks like a wall in the feed.

  5. 05

    One clear ending

Finish with one easy question or one next step. Several asks at once and readers do none of them.

  6. 06

    Three hashtags at most

Pick tags people actually follow. A row of ten reads as spam and adds nothing.

  7. 07

Links, and where to put them

LinkedIn is widely reported to show posts with outside links to fewer people. Many pages put the link in the first comment.

  8. 08

    Claims that need a source

“73% of buyers” or “the best in the region” invites the question “says who?”. Name the source, or say it as your own view.

Questions about the checker

What does the LinkedIn post checker look at?

Eight things: the first line, length, readability, line breaks, the ending, hashtags, links, and claims that need a source. Each one gets a plain fix.

Is it free?

Yes. The checks are free and unlimited, and they run in your browser. You also get one free rewrite, written by the same writer Helio Posts uses for its customers.

Do you keep my post?

The checks never leave your browser. If you ask for a rewrite, the draft goes to our writer to improve it. We keep the improved version so we can email it to you, and nothing else.

Will the rewrite make things up?

No. It may not add a figure, client or result that is missing from your draft and website. If it cannot improve the post without one, it says so instead.

When is the best time to post on LinkedIn?

Weekday mornings, around 9am where your buyers are. Helio Posts posts at 9am on Monday, Wednesday and Friday unless you choose other days.

Should I put links in a LinkedIn post?

LinkedIn is widely reported to show posts with outside links to fewer people. Many pages put the link in the first comment instead, and say so in the post.

How many hashtags should a LinkedIn post have?

Three at most, and only ones people actually follow. A row of ten looks like spam and adds nothing.
